ClipperCreek has announced the ETL listing of its Silver Spring Networks’ Direct-to-Grid communications technology, which pairs the grid-connected CS-40 electric vehicle charging station with Silver Spring UtilityIQ back-office software. The product enables utilities to measure EV charging consumption, manage the load during peak demand times, and deploy two-way load-control connectivity to electric vehicle charging stations.

ClipperCreek President Dave Packard says his company “has long advocated the synergy between the Smart Grid and EV Charging. Taking advantage of existing Smart Grid communications infrastructure allows utilities to fully maximize this increase in business while minimizing the impact on the grid.”

Silver Spring reports that its open, unified Smart Energy Platform “includes an end-to-end Demand Response solution, including UtilityIQ Demand Response Manager in the back office, network infrastructure, and in-home devices with Silver Spring networking built in. The UtilityIQ Demand Response Manager software supports electric vehicle charge management to reduce the risk of new peak loads and encourages customer participation in Demand Response programs.”

Tim Hubbard, Intertek Regional Vice President notes, “The smart grid industry is changing at a rapid pace. Manufacturers want to meet standards in order to access markets, while introducing compliant, robust, competitive products -- and the electric vehicle charging station is a key component within the grid network. Intertek is committed to building industry confidence in smart grid technology, while -- in particular -- playing a critical leadership role in EV charging station testing and certification as it evolves.”

ClipperCreek products are approved for use with all plug-in vehicles, including The Nissan Leaf, Chevy Volt, Ford Transit Connect and Ford Focus Electric, Tesla Roadster, Mitsubishi, and Wheego.

Silver Spring Networks provides networking platform and solutions that help utilities to meet operational efficiencies, reduce carbon emissions, and give customers new ways to monitor and manage their energy consumption.
