One of the biggest issues facing the smart grid is the need for interoperability with its varied components. To that end, Alektrona Corporation has launched its new partner program designed to enhance and promote interoperability between energy management devices, the common denominator in standards-based communications protocols like ZigBee Smart Energy and OpenADR.
Alektrona specializes in unifying open-standards products within energy management systems, and helping energy solution providers better serve their customers’ energy needs. The company’s Z-Aperture energy management hub provides edge connectivity and intelligence for standards based energy devices and energy management applications. Alektrona’s solution allows smart grid companies to focus on their customers’ energy needs.
Alektrona President Christopher Leidigh explains that his company’s solutions “solve complex connectivity issues inherent in multi-vendor, multi-device, multi-standards energy management systems. This allows the companies that make these devices and software to focus on their core competencies. In turn, this fosters innovation and allows end customers to build best-of-breed smart grid solutions.”
The program benefits partners in marketing, sales support, technology, product roadmap updates and, especially, in compatibility validation. Alektrona intends to test partner devices and software to ensure interoperability with its energy management platform, associated software, and its energy management platform.
Testing and validation is done to give consumers, integrators, and solution providers confidence that Alektrona-compatible devices and software will be easy to set up, easy to maintain, reliable and secure. Having flexibility in choosing devices that best meet consumers’ needs and budget will prove more practically and financially efficient.
Leidigh adds: “We see this program as a step towards providing robust solutions to end customers. Alektrona’s connectivity expertise allows smart grid infrastructure vendors to focus on innovation and gives consumers more choices. In the end, the world can more quickly realize the economical and environmental benefits anticipated by the smart grid.”
