Siemens Contracts with British Gas for Meter Reading

Siemens Metering Services has signed a new, five-year meter reading data collection agreement with British Gas. The contract, valued in excess of £100 million, solidifies Siemens position as the leading independent supplier of metering services in the UK.

Siemens original contract with British Gas was signed in 2003 and covered two of British Gas’s eight service areas that served approximately 2.5 million residential and business customers in London, the South East, and the East of England. The new contract, dated from April 1, 2010, included Wales, the South West and the Midlands which effectively doubles Siemens’ meter reading and data collection footprint to around five million customers, approximately half of British Gas’s national coverage.

Kevin Tutton, UK Metering Services Director says the new contract “is a direct result of the efforts of our business operation and service delivery teams in providing high quality efficient services, something which has been recognised by British Gas with the award of this new contract. We are delighted to be selected as a service delivery partner of choice.”

British Gas director of metering, Colin McCann notes, “We collect more meter readings per customer each year than any other energy supplier, as we know accurate billing is a key driver of customer satisfaction. The contract with Siemens is a key component in achieving this objective.”

Siemens will carry out the BG contract from its Metering Services headquarters in Nottingham. The center’s 1,200 employees are responsible for data processing, data management, and field services for gas, electric and water for both commercial and industrial customers.
