Trilliant wins award from TMCnet

TMCnet.com, a leading source of news for the information and communications technology industries, has designated Trilliant’s SecureMesh communications infrastructure as the 2009 Smart Grid Product of the Year.  The prize was announced on February 12.Trilliant develops complete smart grid solutions for utilities and their customers that can increase energy efficiency and the stability of the power supply in a manner that costs operational costs. Renewable energy sources are able to be integrated as well.  The company has been developing energy management systems since its inception in 1985 and counts more than 200 utilities as its customers.  One of those customers, Hydro One, has the largest smart grid deployment on the North American continent.
Trilliant’s SecureMesh Wide Area Network (WAN) products are capable of providing wireless mesh networking to energy distribution networks covering hundreds of square miles.  Data can be transmitted wirelessly to data compilers or other smart grid devices at rates of up to 54 Mbps using standard IP connectivity.

SecureMesh is capable of providing communications ability to a wide variety of traditional electrical infrastructure including substations, voltage regulators, capacitor banks, voltage regulators, and transformers.  Once the connections are established a wide range of enhanced smart grid services are available including distribution and substation automation and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA).

SecureMesh also creates a backhaul for smart grid data collection points to allow for secure smart metering applications.  Distribution and the backhaul are integrated into a single infrastructure that maintains security in a networking environment that may be virtualized or partitioned.

“We’re honored that Trilliant’s multi-tier architecture approach to smart grid communications has been recognized as the product of the year by TMC and Intelligent Communications Partners,” said Rob Conant, senior vice president of network products at Trilliant.  “When Trilliant acquired SkyPilot Networks in 2009 we knew that it would have a big impact on the industry, and we have been delighted with the positive responses we have seen from utilities as their needs have migrated from basic AMI systems to more advanced smart grid networks.”

“With our proven, standards based solutions for Neighborhood Area Networks (NAN) and Home Area Networks (HAN), and the SecureMesh Wide Area Network technology from the acquisition; we are providing utilities a true future proof infrastructure for their smart grid initiatives.”

“TMCnet.com is pleased to grant a 2009 Product of the Year Award to Trilliant for their SecureMesh WAN product,” said Rich Tehrani, chief executive officer at TMC.  “Trilliant has proven they are committed to quality and excellence while addressing real needs in the marketplace.  We’re proud to honor their accomplishments in the advancement of the smart grid technologies.”

TMC’s first annual Product of the Year Award winners are featured on the company’s website.  TMC (Technology Marketing Corporation) is an integrated media company with a global presence that is dedicated to helping clients build communities in print, in person, and online.
