SAP announced on May 19 that its AMI Integration for Utilities software has become widely available for the first time.  Additionally, the software giant introduced a dashboard, developed in partnership with StreamServe that readily displays cost and carbon emission information for utility companies.

The unveiling was announced at a conference for the utility industry that focuses on customer service called CS Week, currently underway in Washington D.C. and ending on Friday.  At the conference industry players seek to share and learn best practices along with the latest in advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) development.

At the event SAP described the company’s marked progress in integrating smart meter operation within core processes of utility companies. Included within the new software release is an efficient means of acquiring smart meter data through synchronization methods that allow for the management of bi-directional communications between intelligent devices and SAP software.

The new dashboard, produced through a collaborative effort with StreamServe, allows utilities to monitor their costs and services to customers.  Historical data allows utilities to create data models that can provide insight into how costs can be reduced while decreasing the impact on the environment at the same time.

"The SAP AMI Integration for Utilities solution and the packaged dashboard tie-in closely with StreamServe's Sustainability Program, which was also announced today at CS Week," said Dennis Ladd, president and CEO of StreamServe.

"Based on established benchmarks, these solutions enable utilities and their customers to improve cost-efficiencies and become far less reliant on the earth's resources. We are proud to have worked with SAP and to have developed solutions that strive to support sustainability."

Utilities also stand to gain operational efficiencies by adapting SAP AMI Integration software.  Smart metering functionality and AMI processes are integrated and linked to the sales, service, and billing processes of the utility.  SAP’s ERP system for utilities is the industry leader.

"The plan to revolutionize the nation's electric grid will demand a serious commitment to upgrading the way utilities and consumers interact with one another," said David Laker, senior vice president and general manager, Utilities Practice, SAP America, Inc. "These developments reflect our commitment to that goal as well as helping the nation's utilities find ways to run leaner and more efficiently."

"SAP's collaboration with partners such as StreamServe is critical to helping utilities and their consumers prepare for the transition to the smart grid," agreed Tom Raftery, analyst with GreenMonk. "SAP and its partner ecosystem can deliver a complete package of smart grid solutions, from the meter to the utility's back office, that have mutual benefits for both companies and consumers."

SAP is a leading provider of business software for companies of all sizes and operating within more than 25 industries.  The software giant has more than 86,000 customers in over 120 countries.

StreamServe specializes in the development of document process automation and solutions for enterprise output management.  Utilizing the firm’s solutions, businesses are able to increase the value and profitability of their business relationships.
