NorthStar Utilities Solutions’ MeterSense has been selected by Doyon Utilities for its ongoing project with the United States Army to study utility energy management at three military bases in Alaska. The MDM system is intended to supply the military with power usage information that will enable its installations in Alaska to meet their energy management goals.
Brandi McCullough, Doyon Utilities’ IT Systems Administrator and Project Manager, explains that although the company was a Tier II utility less than 250,000 meters deployed, it was operating, “as a Tier I utility – one with more than 250,000 meters – due to the energy management requirements and advanced technologies used in our infrastructure. Based on the Army’s energy management requirements, it was clear that much more than a Communication Information System (CIS) was needed. These requirements proved that a strong CIS and meter data management tool was necessary in order to meet the Army’s energy management goals and needs.”
McCullough says only NorthStar Utilities Solutions has a product that supports Tier II utilities and Tier I energy management requirements “out of the box. When we considered the Army’s deliverables and requirements, NorthStar’s MeterSense was able to give Doyon Utilities a comprehensive solution to energy management and a complete understanding of what energy management entails. NorthStar provides both a CIS and meter management solution, which is the driving force behind better energy management through auditing, validation and robust reporting tools.”
NorthStar Utilities Solutions vice president, Ken Hayes, adds, “Our MeterSense MDM will help the U.S. military meet its energy initiatives and provide Doyon Utilities with the tools they need to further extend the capabilities of their existing AMI system. We look forward to working collaboratively with Doyon as they achieve their energy management goals.”
Doyon Utilities is a joint venture between Doyon Properties and Fairbanks Sewer & Water and located in Fairbanks, Alaska.
