Cluj-Napoca City has selected IT solutions provider Telvent to install the first distribution management system DMS for a medium voltage network in Romania. Telvent will partner with its Romanian associate, EnergoBit, to complete the project which comprises more than 60 transformer substations with Saitel smart remote terminal units SRTU. By integrating the DMS and SRTU technology, Cluj-Napoca City creates a smarter grid while increasing efficiency, reducing operational costs, and improving consumer satisfaction.
Telvent says its DMS “will be installed at the dispatching center and will interface with the existing supervisory control and data acquisition system SCADA, OASyS DNA. Telvent DMS allows the user to visualize a mathematical model of any distribution network, including detailed models for voltage management, micro-generation, frequency variation, demand response and other smart grid management functions.”
The Telvent DMS uses a built-in analytics engine which enables utilities to achieve improved operational efficiencies with its existing assets. Telvent has previously deployed similar projects including Advanced Metering Infrastructure AMI projects, for companies in Sweden, Finland, the United States, Panama, Colombia, Chile and Costa Rica.
Ignacio Gonzalez, Telvent’s chief executive officer, says, “Integrating an advanced distribution management system is one of the best ways utilities can generate the information necessary to improve profitability and plan improvements for future smart grid enhancements. We are proud to continue our partnership with EnergoBit and look forward to the positive results from the project for Cluj-Napoca following the installation of the Telvent DMS system.”
