Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) has selected eMeter’s EnergyIP information platform and customer Web portal for use in its upcoming Smart Grid pilot program. ITRI, a research organization mandated to strengthen the technological competitiveness of Taiwan, says Energy IP was chosen for its reliability and scalability, and proven success in the market.
eMeter’s EnergyIP delivers event-driven information and automation in real-time to integrate utility operations and manage the smart grid. As part of eMeter’s Smart Grid Management Suite, EnergyIP enables electric, gas and water utilities to realize the full benefits of their AMI and Smart Grid initiatives.
Project leader, ITRI’s Dr. Eager Huang, says, “eMeter is definitely one of the global leaders in providing information management software for the Smart Grid and that’s why ITRI invites eMeter to join this pilot project.”
ITRI secured government funding for its AMI demonstration that will include 300-500 customers. The pilot includes a basic functional test that may contribute to AMI regulation and standards in Taiwan. The communication architecture and system interfaces will also be evaluated.
Gary Bloom, CEO of eMeter, says his company “welcomes ITRI to our portfolio of global customers. This is truly a great moment for eMeter as we look forward to extending our Smart Grid expertise in Asia, and specifically into the Chinese market.”
Founded in 1973, the Industrial Technology Research Institute is a nonprofit research and development organization. ITRI has played a central role in promoting Taiwan’s high-tech industry.
