Dayton becomes the latest Tennessee Valley Public Power Association member to adopt the EnergyAxis Smart Grid solution, which provides automated metering infrastructure that gives customers pricing and usage information through time-of-use (TOU) rates. TOU rates enable customers to better manage, monitor, and control energy consumption and costs. The Elster Smart Meters will be installed by the Dayton Electric Department and the deployment is expected to be finished.
Frank Welch, Dayton’s city manager, says it’s the city’s “top priority to provide customers with improved energy efficiency, better customer service and more flexible rates. With Elster’s field-proven Smart Grid solutions, we are future-proofing our technology and driving operational efficiency and business process improvements that will help cut energy costs.”
To promote power efficiency, the Tennessee Valley Authority has urged its Tennessee Valley Public Power Association members to migrate from seasonal rates to TOU rates.
