Telvent Selected for Spanish Smart Grid Project

Telvent, which provides real-time IT solutions and information to help companies become more sustainable, has been selected to design, install, and manage the distributed control system (DCS) for the first two solar thermal power plants in the Abengoa’s Extremadura Solar Platform, located in Logrosán, Cáceres, Spain. The deal, which marks the fifteenth Abengoa-owned commercial power plant in Spain for which Telvent has developed integrated control systems, is part of Telvent’s strategy to further its global smart grid leadership in the solar industry.

Schneider Electric has announced the acquisition of Telvent, which provides high value-added IT software and solutions of real-time management of smart infrastructures. It provides its customers with increased reliability and flexibility of power distribution networks as well as operational and energy efficiency of their infrastructures. The deal has been approved by the board of directors of Telvent.

British Columbia Testing Smart Technologies

British Columbia is embracing clean energy technologies. Stockwell Day, president of the Treasury Board and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway announced that Power Measurement Ltd. will receive up to $3 million through the Canadian government’s Clean Energy Fund for a project to demonstrate the ability of a smart grid electricity system to optimize energy resources, including renewables, in an institutional building complex at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). It is possible the smart grid technology could allow buildings to reduce their electricity consumption by 10–25 percent.
