Hybrid Fleet Vehicle Sales Expected to Soar

New research by Pike Research forecasts that the number of hybrids fleet vehicles will reach nearly 750,000 by 2015.  Pike’s study, Hybrid Electric Vehicles for Fleet Markets, concludes that the global market for HEV light-duty vehicles in the fleet sector will “increase at a compound annual growth rate of 17.5 percent during the years from 2010 to 2015, with vehicle sales surpassing 740,000 per year by the end of that period.”

Department of Energy Awards $4 Million to Planar Energy

Large format battery developer Planar Energy has received $4 million from the United States Department of Energy. The grant was announced in Washington, D.C., by Vice President Joe Biden and U.S. Secretary of Energy Stephen Chu at a Recovery Act Cabinet meeting. It was awarded as part of the DOE’s Advanced Research Project Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) initiative to promote transformational energy research projects.
