Obama Administration Utilities Offer Plan to Accelerate U.S. Smart Grid

In 2009, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funded $4.5 billion to promote smart grid and clean energy projects, which was matched by $5.5 billion in private funding. The new push to promote the smart grid will be much less expensive for the federal government but the Administration hopes it will be even more effective.

White House to Unveil New Smart Grid Initiatives

On Monday, June 13, the Obama Administration is hosting e media event dubbed Building the 21st Century Electric Grid that will detail new initiatives designed to implement a smart electric grid in the United States, including the role IT will play. The report also outlines what it will take for lawmakers and the private sector to come together to solve this aspect of the energy challenge.
