Meter Data Management

Meter Data Management Market to Grow Nearly Tenfold to $490 Million by 2018 According to Pike Research

Meter data management (MDM) systems, which serve as the central point of data collection for utility metering deployments, are a key component of smart grid initiatives. These systems validate and edit the data received, then aggregate, normalise, and make the data available to other IT applications via well defined interfaces. For instance, MDM systems often interface to applications such as billing, fraud prevention, or outage management. Whereas a single smart meter deployment may include several advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) systems with different network topologies, utilities nearly always have only one MDM system, since it is a central collection point for the smart meter data.

Schneider Electric to Acquire Telvent

Schneider Electric has announced the acquisition of Telvent, which provides high value-added IT software and solutions of real-time management of smart infrastructures. It provides its customers with increased reliability and flexibility of power distribution networks as well as operational and energy efficiency of their infrastructures. The deal has been approved by the board of directors of Telvent.

Kansas City Power and Light Selects Siemens

Kansas City Power and Light (KCP&L) has selected Siemens Energy to implement eMeter EnergyIP, a meter data management system (MDMS) as part of its SmartGrid demonstration project funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Siemens will provide configuration, testing, and integration services into KCP&L’s information technology systems. The primary objective of this project is to demonstrate standards-based interoperability between the MDMS and other KCP&L SmartGrid systems.

eMeter Begins Phase Two of Taiwan Smart Meter Deployment

Smart grid information platform provider eMeter has successfully completed the integration of 308 branded meters into its software, and will begin the second phase of its AMI Deployment and Technology Feasibility Study pilot program in Taiwan.

Long Island Power Authority Selects eMeter

The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA), and its agent National Grid Electric Services, have selected eMeter’s EnergyIP meter data management platform as part of its plan to deploy a Smart Grid framework across its electric service territory. It has also chosen eMeter’s Energy Engage online consumer portal to enable LIPA customers to better manage their energy use by providing web-based usage data.

Bangor Hydro Chooses Itron Software

Bangor Hydro Electric Company is implementing Itron software solutions to migrate from automated meter reading (AMR) processes to an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI). The utility will employ Itron technology to implement dynamic pricing and multi-channel customer engagement that will help customers better understand and manage their energy usage.

Trilliant Earns eMeter 2011 Technology Integration Award

Trilliant is the recipient of eMeter’s 2011 Technology Integration Award. The announcement was made at the 2011 eMeter Leadership Conference, which is taking place May 9-11, 2011 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco. The conference attracts industry leaders in Smart Meter data management to discuss current trends and best practices, share ideas and experiences, and connect with other professionals.

Elster to Provide Data Management for Arizona Utility

The Salt River Project will deploy Elster’s EnergyICT EIServer meter data management (MDM) solution to manage more than 900,000 planned advanced metering devices throughout the utility’s service territory. The implementation of the EnergyICT MDM system is currently underway and expected to complete in July 2011.

Orlando Selects Siemens

The Orlando Utilities Commission – The Reliable One (OUC) has selected Siemens to implement their meter data management system based on eMeter’s EnergyIP software to support current and future applications and business processes enabled by an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI).  OUC selected Siemens’ project management and delivery services combined with EnergyIP’s advanced capabilities as the best choice for their planned Smart Grid initiatives.

eMeter Named MDM Leader

In the GTM Research report, The Emergence of Meter Data Management (MDM): A Smart Grid Information Strategy, eMeter was named the overall leader in meter data management (MDM), ranked ahead of both Oracle and Itron. The report stated eMeter earned the top spot based on “the strength of its overall MDM platform” and because it is “rapidly building out a line of related software products.”
