Romanian City to Deploy Echelon Energy Control Networking Technology

The City of Brasov, Romania, will deploy over the next three years Echelon energy control technology for smart, networked street lighting systems citywide, Echelon announced today. The decision follows the city’s yearlong test of the technology in a neighbourhood that led to the city saving 28% on its energy bills and 40% on maintenance costs. Brasov also achieved more control over its streetlights and gained the ability to efficiently distribute power to other applications on the grid.

 

Echelon Appoints New Product Vice President

Echelon Corporation has announced the appointment of product strategist Varun Nagaraj to the position of senior vice president of product management and product marketing. With 20 years of product planning and strategy expertise, Nagaraj will be responsible for Echelon’s product planning, strategy and outbound communications and is expected to drive the evolution of Echelon’s Energy Control Networking solutions.

Echelon Partners with Infor on Building Energy Management

Echelon Corporation is teaming with software provider Infor to deliver turnkey building energy management solutions based on Echelon’s SmartServer and Infor’s EAM Asset Sustainability Edition product. This new offering, which is designed for both commercial and industrial customers, analyzes energy use and trends affiliated with a facility and specific equipment to determine optimal maintenance, replacement, and upgrade strategies.

Echelon Unveils New Platform

Echelon Corporation has introduced a new open software platform for distributed control of the smart grid. The Echelon Control System (ECoS) runs at the edge of the grid, which represents the space where the distribution network connects to customers, via the new Edge Control Node (ECN) 7000 series of open and extensible hardware solutions. The announcement was made at a special presentation attended by industry consultants and Echelon customers and partners including Duke Energy, Oracle, SEAS-NVE, and Telvent. Echelon also announced today that Duke Energy will be the first customer for the ECoS.

Echelon Enhances its NES System

Embedded control networks provider Echelon Corporation, has enhanced its Networked Energy Services (NES) system, one of the most widely-deployed, next-generation smart grid platforms used by utilities. As stated, enhancements include a new generation of CT meter, enterprise smart metering network operating system software, downloadable smart meter enhancements, and updated system tools.

 

Echelon Joins ESMIG

Echelon Corporation has joined the European Smart Metering Industry Group. ESMIG is a resource for European Union member states, regulators, consumers, utilities and others involved in the European smart meter market and related communications.
