Detroit Edison (DTE Energy), which services more than two million electric customers in Southeastern Michigan, has selected solutions from Itron and Tropos for its $168 million SmartCurrents project, the utility’s first smart grid program designed to modernize the electric grid, improving distribution system reliability and efficiency, and empowering electric customers with more information about their power usage.
BC Hydro has confirmed it will deploy approximately two million new Itron metering systems to over the next two years as part of its Smart Metering Program. It is estimated the meters will save about $70 million in the first three years of implementation and a net benefit to customers of over $500 million in the long term.
Detroit Edison (DTE) Energy has announced plans to deploy an additional 350,000 electric smart meters as part of its SmartCurrents program. The meters implement technology that allows them to be read remotely and which will provide a wide range of benefits to consumers. The smart meters will also reduce operational savings through increased efficiencies to DTE Energy.
