Telvent, which provides real-time IT solutions and information to help companies become more sustainable, has been selected to design, install, and manage the distributed control system (DCS) for the first two solar thermal power plants in the Abengoa’s Extremadura Solar Platform, located in Logrosán, Cáceres, Spain. The deal, which marks the fifteenth Abengoa-owned commercial power plant in Spain for which Telvent has developed integrated control systems, is part of Telvent’s strategy to further its global smart grid leadership in the solar industry.
Schneider Electric has announced the acquisition of Telvent, which provides high value-added IT software and solutions of real-time management of smart infrastructures. It provides its customers with increased reliability and flexibility of power distribution networks as well as operational and energy efficiency of their infrastructures. The deal has been approved by the board of directors of Telvent.
The Midwest Independent System Operator (MISO) has installed and integrated the first 44 synchrophasors, advanced electronic measurement devices known as phasor measurement units (PMU), at strategic points along the regional transmission network. The $34.5 million program is partially funded by a $17.3 million Recovery Act grant awarded by the United States Department of Energy to modernize the nation’s electrical grid.

The Board of Directors of Pacific Gas & Electric Corporation will elect a new lead executive in the coming weeks in light of current Chairman, CEO and President Peter Darbee’s announced retirement, effective April 30, 2011. The company’s utility unit, Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) Company, will continue to be led by President Christopher P. Johns.
Constellation Energy announced it will acquire energy management and demand response provider CPower, which designs and manages programs that enable commercial, utility, and public sector customers to reduce electricity demand during peak demand periods. The acquisition expands Constellation Energy’s total demand response capacity to 1,500 megawatts. The deal is expected in the fourth quarter of 2010. Terms were not disclosed.
Petra Solar has appointed John S. Rego chief financial officer and treasurer. As CFO, Rego will be responsible for the company’s accounting, finance, treasury, taxation, human resources, public relations, and information technology. Rego has more than 25 years of executive leadership experience in building technology companies. Prior to joining Petra, Rego spent seven years with Vonage Holdings Corp. as executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer and was responsible for raising over $1.3 billion in capital.
