British Gas is launching a new green tariff which lets consumers vote on where millions of pounds should be spent aiding community energy projects. The tariff is a part of energyshare, renewable energy community founded by River Cottage and British Gas designed to fundamentally change the way British consumers use energy. Energyshare offers funding as well as practical advice on how local groups, businesses and individuals can use green and cheaper sources of energy, save money and cut their bills.
Hot off the press today comes the news that smart meters while they can bring big benefits for customers if implemented correctly can pose big risks if they are not. This news comes from Zoe McLeod, energy expert for Consumer Focus who is to address the forthcoming Smart Metering UK & Ireland conference in London. The country’s five largest utilities, E.ON, British Gas, EDF, ESB and RWE nPower, will be there to interact with the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) about the smart meter roll-out plans.
Siemens Metering Services has signed a new, five-year meter reading data collection agreement with British Gas. The contract, valued in excess of £100 million, solidifies Siemens position as the leading independent supplier of metering services in the UK.
