The SmartPoint GM transceiver allows utilities to migrate to a fixed-base system when connected with the Sensus FlexNet advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) communications network. According to Sensus, migration between the communication platforms is supported by a simple, over-the-air reconfiguration of the SmartPoint GM transceiver.
Joe McCormick, vice president of gas operations at Sensus explains, ìThese transceivers enable gas utilities to gather data that helps them better serve their customers by understanding usage patterns and improve operational efficiencies such as reducing truck rolls and optimizing human resources. In addition, the alarm features are pre-programmable and alert utilities to specified conditions that may require a particular action.î
Fixed-base customers will be able to harness the full benefits of two-way remote reading communications using the Sensus FlexNet system, which is based on open standards and licensed spectrum. Customers using a fixed-base system can also request on demand readings from the utility office.
