Move Gives Public Full Access to Data PG&E Provides to California Utility Regulators

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) today released forty-five reports, dating back to August 2006, that provide a detailed look inside the company’s SmartMeter™ program. No other utility in California is reporting on its meter conversion program as often or in as much detail. The reports are located on PG&E’s website at www.pge.com/SmartMeterCPUCreports.
PG&E has been providing these reports to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), as well as the Division of Ratepayer Advocates (an independent division of the Commission that advocates on behalf of customers), since the beginning of PG&E’s SmartMeter™ program.

The Technology of the Smart Grid – 2nd Edition

Research and Markets has announced the addition of the “The Technology of the Smart Grid – 2nd Edition”
report to their offering.

The 2nd Edition of The Technology of the Smart Grid report is a 140-page overview of the key technologies and vendors that are making the Smart Grid a
reality.

Demand for electricity is growing faster than the supply infrastructure. At the same time, the conversion to a digital economy is increasing the demand for high  quality power. The need to reduce peak demand and improve power quality requires an enhanced distribution grid which can both heal itself and provide two-way communication between the utility and the end-user. Many companies are working to develop the technology needed to implement this vision of a Smart Grid.

Landis+Gyr Welcomes vote on Euro Smartmeter Deployment

Zug, Switzerland – 27th April, 2009: Landis+Gyr welcomes two European Parliament votes that ensure smart metering will play a lead role in enabling the European Union to meet its ambitious environmental and energy efficiency goals.

Last week the full Parliament reached agreement on the EU Energy Package, including a definitive mandate for the roll-out of smart meters in all EU Member States by 2022, with 80% coverage to be achieved by 2020.

In addition, the Parliament heard a first reading of the Energy Efficiency of Buildings Directive (EPBD) and voted to further expedite smart meter deployment in Member States by requiring that all new buildings and those undergoing renovation be equipped with smart meters.  This provision would take effect when the Directive is transposed into national law, possibly as early as 2012.

Trilliant Continues to Set the Smart Grid Pace with Deployment of Over One Million Intelligent Devices

Implementations helping to grow Energy Internet; arm consumers with energy data, and reduce carbon emissions
Redwood City, California, February 3, 2009 – Trilliant Incorporated, the leader in delivering Smart Grid solutions that enhance energy efficiency, utility operations, and renewable resource integration, today announced an important milestone in the growth of the Smart Grid.  To date, the company has now implemented more than one million full two-way, intelligent communication devices to power Smart Grid applications.  The announcement was made today at the DistribuTECH conference, where Trilliant is demonstrating their solutions at Booth # 2508.

“We’re very proud of this milestone, and are already hard at work on the next million,” said Bill Vogel, CEO of Trilliant.  “Every intelligent grid and consumer device means better efficiency in aggregate as utilities and consumers alike have more control over energy usage and operations.  As a result, our society is better prepared to manage resources and reduce carbon emissions.”
While the number of intelligent devices demonstrates significant momentum in the growth of the Smart Grid, it is equally important that consumer-focused devices and tools are deployed to help realize the full value of Smart Grid investments.
