Itron’s ChoiceConnect data collection suite, partnered with Nighthawk’s wireless technology results in a robust smart meter solution that is able to collect two-way information between power provider and customer in real time. The communication point is established at the smart meter installed in a customer’s home.
Using this technology, utility companies are able to connect, disconnect, or even set limits to the amount of power used by customers based upon readings from the smart meter. All of this is accomplished without dispatching a work crew to a customer’s location. Nighthawk’s “whole house disconnect” technology gives Itron the capability to customize solutions for their utility company customers. The Nighthawk hardware units are installed along with the Itron smart meter for a seamless integration of the complementary technologies.
