Google, CPower, CSG, and CSE have all joined the Demand Response and Advanced metering Coalition (DRAM).  The coalition also announced that it was changing its name to the Demand Response and Smart Grid Coalition (DRSG).

Chris King, Chief Strategy Officer of member company eMeter who also helped found the group, said the name change makes sense.  “Our new name – the DRSG Coalition – reflects the growth in diversity of our organization’s members and the breadth of smart grid products and services that they provide,” said King.  “DRSG will continue to work to educate and provide information to policymakers, utilities, the media, the financial community and stakeholders on how demand response and smart grid technologies such as smart meters can help modernize our electricity system and provide customers with new information and options for managing their electricity use.  Our members are the ones that will be providing the foundational elements with which the smart grid will be created.”
Rick Counihan, Vice President for Regulatory Affairs at member company EnerNOC and also Co-Chair of the DRSG Membership Committee, was pleased to welcome the four new member companies.  “We are pleased to have these four key companies come aboard.  They both diversify and strengthen our group and demonstrate the explosive growth of our industry and increased demand for demand response and smart grid goods and services.”

Google’s philanthropic arm, Google.org, has invested technological innovators researching and innovating in the areas of energy and climate change.  The Internet powerhouse uses a number of approaches to reach its goals including investment capital in for-profit businesses, influencing energy policy, and awarding grants.

CPower provides energy management technology and services that allow companies to optimize operations through energy conservation efforts while generating revenue for those usage reductions at the same time.  CPower is designing and implementing programs that maximizes rewards for energy conservation and reduces the strain on the power grid through its advocacy efforts on the behalf of energy users and collaborations with power grid operators.

Conservation Services Group (CSG) provides energy-saving products, services, and strategies to consumers and businesses throughout the country.  The company aims to protect the environment by minimizing the impact of power generation, encouraging the efficient use of energy, and by reducing demand on natural resources.

Corporate Systems Engineering, LLC (CSE), a pioneer in utility energy management, has been providing services since 1982.  Today, the company is one of the largest manufacturers of load control devices in the United States and is actively developing smart meter technology.  CSE seeks to provide solutions that give power providers and their customers the ability to effectively manage and monitor their energy consumption.

Ben Boyd, Vice President of DRSG member Aclara and also Co-Chair of the membership committee, has invited other like-minded companies to consider joining the group.  “This is a time of great opportunity for our industry given that policymakers are aware of the ability of demand response and smart grid technologies like smart meters to create ‘green jobs’ and address many of the other challenges facing our country,” said Boyd.  “We call upon others to join our educational and outreach efforts.”

The DRSG Coalition is a trade association for companies that provide products and services in the area of smart meters and supporting technologies.  The group aims to educate and provide information to the media, policymakers, utilities, financiers, and stakeholders on how smart meter technology can modernize the American electrical system and create a system where customers have control over their energy consumption.
