LIPA Chief Operating Officer Michel D. Hervey explains, “LIPA is eager to begin implementing eMeter’s EnergyIP and Energy Engage to improve our existing metering and billing processes and provide improved service to our 1.1 million customers. eMeter’s proven track record in the utility industry and its history of successful deployments of Smart Grid meter data management systems make them an ideal partner for LIPA.”
eMeter’s EnergyIP platform will consolidate multiple smart meter and legacy meter reading systems and integrate to LIPA’s customer information for billing and synchronization with the smart metering systems. The eMeter Energy Engage web portal will deliver energy information to consumers and integrate into LIPA’s website. Other possible applications include Validation, Estimation, Editing and Time of Use Rates, advanced billing, and outage event management.
Gary Bloom, eMeter CEO and President says, “We are proud to add LIPA to our growing list of partners who are at the forefront of bringing the Smart Grid to life around the world. Bringing together both the back end technologies as well as the consumer engagement component to their existing Smart Grid projects will further demonstrate the value of LIPA’s efforts and help yield more promising results as they continue the project.”
The implementation of eMeter’s EnergyIP and Energy Engage will be in conjunction with LIPA’s Smart Corridor Project, which is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The Smart Corridor Project is a collaboration between LIPA, Stony Brook University, and Farmingdale State College to create the first Smart Grid on Long Island. The project was created to integrate a suite of Smart Grid technologies, including smart meters, distribution automation, distributed energy resources, and electric vehicle charging stations.
