Today’s grid faces great challenges as a result of the changes required to meet both European policy goals and climate change reduction. In order to keep up with these requirements, innovative solutions must be applied to increase the reliability, efficiency and safety of the power grid.
SMART Grids 2009 will provide a platform to define and the discuss the role of the smart grid in Europe. Industry experts will discuss the growing smart grids market and how to plan & implement smart grid technologies in the current business. It will look at sustainability issues, explore business models, and demonstrate how building the next generation grid can improve overall operational efficiencies.

The Convention Centre building, created by Spanish architect José Luis Mateo, is an architectural work with light as its main feature.
Designer of other iconic buildings, such as the future Film Library of Catalonia, the TGV station in Lille (France) and the AC Hotel in the Diagonal Mar area, José Luis Mateo has created an open building, completely versatile and facing the sea. The Convention Centre has 45 light and airy halls, distributed over 3 floors, 2 mezzanines and a basement.
The large exhibition hall, which is flooded with natural light and can be partitioned into 8 different zones, and a spectacular banqueting hall with views over the sea, are some of its outstanding features.
