British Gas Business (BGB) has selected Elster’s advanced gas metering soultion. The agreement calls for Elster to provide over the next three years up to 100,000 of its next generation range of themis diaphragm gas meters, with flexible embedded GPRS communications and Zone 0 ATEX accreditation. In addition, Elster will also supply its RABO range of rotary meters with encoder communications.
Both technologies are designed to improve the accuracy and frequency of data, enabling BGB to provide to its business customers with energy information that is easy to understand so the enterprises can better manage power consumption.
According to Elster, the themis range of meters “utilize a modular UMI communications protocol that supports a flexible approach to future change requirements, effectively future-proofing our smart solutions.”
BGB has chosen two meter asset management (MAM) partners for the deployment: Energy Assets and Smart Metering Systems. Both companies have long working relationships with Elster.
Elster’s UK smart program executive Steve Case says, “We are delighted that BGB have chosen Elster for this pioneering project. This is the first significant advance in gas metering technology within this sector for many years, and we are confident that this will benefit BGB, our MAM partners Energy Assets and Smart Metering Systems and, more importantly, BGB’s customers.”
Matt Idle, British Gas’s director of customer operations adds: “Since 2008 we have made significant efforts to ensure that all of our customers could benefit from advanced metering, and this agreement is the next step in this journey. The meters provided by Elster will enable our corporate customers to benefit from innovative technology, which will make it easier for them to control and reduce their energy costs.”
